2022 Winners of the Arbor Day Photo Contest

To celebrate Arbor Day, the Idaho Forest Products Commission sponsors a Photo Contest each year. The competition is open to all Idaho youth in 5th-12th grades. For the 2022 contest, young photographers addressed the theme, Healthy Tree, Healthy Me. In addition to their photo, contestants provided a statement sharing their vision of the photo’s portrayal of the theme.

Photographer's Statement:

This is a black and white photograph of the beginning of a forest, on top of a mountain. I really like how this photo feels simple and elegant, but also a little eerie and moody at the same time. It reminds me a lot of Ansel Adams’ work, which is why this is one of my most proud photographs. I also intended for the trees to be cut off on the sides because it adds almost a framed look to the photo itself.
