Photographer's Statement:
Something new is always happening in a well-managed forest where there is opportunity for it. Here, a simple log rests on the ground to provide new nutritious soil for the green growth and a place for this newly-molted cicada to relax.
Along with other forest management practices, snags and logs provide enhanced habitat for many small animals and decomposers including fungi and centipedes and plants like moss that enjoy the spring`s mountain rains. And look! Even some members of the insect world are turning green this season.
